Functions of the Blocks on the Switch Power Supply

Almost all electronic equipment today uses a power supply with switching technology, because it has several advantages compared to conventional power supplies that use large iron transformers. In addition to having a much smaller size, switching power supplies also have an electric power efficiency of up to 83% when compared to conventional power supplies. In how it works, this switching power supply has a variety of blocks with different functions. The following is the function of the blocks contained in the switching power supply:

1. Rectifier

This block serves to rectify the AC input voltage of 220/110 volts into a voltage with direct current (DC) on the switching power supply. The result of this rectification is a DC voltage containing pulses with a frequency of 100 Hz, due to using a dual rectifier.

2. Leveling Filter I

This block serves to equalize the voltage resulting from the rectification of the switching power supply. DC voltage here can be called an unregulated DC voltage (Unregulated DC Voltage). This voltage has not been used for a series of televisions or other monitors.

3. Graded Filter II

This block has the function of eliminating the 20 KHz pulse in the switching power supply. The resulting voltage is an average voltage (can be seen through an oscilloscope). Usually the capacitor will be in this section.

4. Electronic Switch

This block serves to cut off unregulated DC voltage with a very high frequency, the frequency of which is at least close to the Horizontal Oscillator frequency. The purpose of using this high frequency is to obtain a high level of efficiency. Components that can be used for switching circuits include: Transistor, FET, SCR. The voltage generated from the switching circuit is a pulsating DC voltage with a frequency ranging from 20 KHz.

5. AMP Error

This type of block serves to compare the output voltage with a voltage that is used as a reference (Referance) on the switching power supply. From the comparison results, it is obtained that the correction voltage is fed to the driver that supplies the switching. Thus obtained a voltage that can be adjusted.
