Getting to Know the Main Components of a Steam Boiler

The steam boiler component is a set of tools or process units that are part of the boiler. Each component has a different function and is connected to other components according to the process flow. By understanding each component function in a steam boiler, you can find out the working principle of the boiler in more detail. To make it easier for you to know the main components of the boiler, here is the discussion:

1. Kettle Drum

This part of the steam boiler functions as a hot water reservoir and a place for steam to form. This drum holds saturated steam and water in a ratio between 50% water and 50% steam.

The boiler drum is installed with insulation so that the water is not carried away by the steam. Water with a low temperature will fall to the bottom and water with a high temperature will rise to the top and then evaporate.

2. Superheater

This section is a place for drying steam, because the steam coming from the boiler drum in the steam boiler is still wet so it cannot be used. The advanced heating process uses a superheater pipe which is heated at a temperature of 260°C to 350°C. With this temperature, the steam will become dry and can be used to drive turbines and for other equipment purposes.

3. Economizer

The economizer functions to absorb heat from the combustion gases after passing through the superheater in the steam boiler. This water heating is carried out so that the temperature difference between the filling water and the water in the boiler drum is not too high, so there is no thermal stress (voltage that occurs due to heating) in the main drum. In addition, by utilizing combustion gases, it will increase the efficiency of the boiler and the steam formation process is faster.

4. Steam Air Heater

This component is a tool that functions to heat the air used to blow/blow the fuel so that it can burn completely. The air to be exhaled, before passing through the air heater, has the same temperature as the normal air temperature, which is 38°C. However, after going through the air heater, the air temperature will increase to 230°C.
