Types of Flange Based on ANSI
According to ANSI (American National Standards Institute), the types of flanges for piping systems are divided into the following:
1. Socket Flange
Socket flange is a flange which on the outer side there is a resistance that causes the pipe inserted into it does not penetrate. Look at this picture.
2. Slip On Flange
This type of slip on flange has a plain inside surface, almost similar to a socket flange. The size of the inside flange is slightly larger than the outside of the pipe being installed. The installation is only partially entered, and welding is carried out on the front and rear sides of the flange.
3. Lap Joint Flange
The type of flange that can be rotated so that the position of the bolt hole can be adjusted. This type of flange is not recommended for high pressure.
4. Weldneck Flange
This type of flange is the most widely used in a plant, because it is easy to connect with pipes. Very well used for high pressure and temperature, also equally good for low pressure and temperature.
5. Threaded Flange
As the name suggests, this type of flange has a threaded connection type. Usually used in fire-prone system areas, where welding or sparks are not allowed. So this type of flange will be used. So if there is a repair it will be easier to remove.
6. Blind Flange
Flange that serves to close the flow, as well as the cap in the fitting. This type of flange is flat, not perforated because it functions as a cover.
